This year was a quite a special OFFDEM as we clearly saw that everyone there had some sense of the necessity to organize, most probably triggered by the rise of fascist politics internationally.
Outcomes
Care > Bonds
The Bonds conversation revolved very much about union organisation in tech and history of anarcho syndicalism, much has been said , join the group to participate
Care > Demilitarize
The demil work-group encompassed people with many different and complimentary experiences which proved to be really productive.
The proposition to work on threat modelling has been interpreted differently from looking at our own vulnerabilities to looking at the vulnerabilities encompassed by this system responsible of those deadly outcomes.
Option 1: Threat modeling our collectives
Option 2: Threat modeling the state/military-industrial complex
Option 3: A conversation on what we are already doing, investigation
We don’t talk about connections to military industry in leftist/activist circles. There is a knowledge gap.
Discussions spammed across topics, from direct action and mobilisation to the relays and possible correspondences that were possible for public discourse in the activist and more formal organisations.
Another group focused on understanding this threat modelling proposition and what it implied in their research context.
The formalisation that occurred in this day of work was quite focused and will bring further developments and encounters.
Care > e-Waste
This year e-waste workgroup was mostly focused on the bms topic, OFFDEM network was running on a battery operated wifi network, that was a live proof of the battery recycling process operated by #bms group.
Care > Synware
Synware session was the main topic of this year, and we really entered into the depth of the subject.
The mornig was spent in evaluating the conditions for an international free software syndicalist platform, several conditions where identified.
- being decentralised and intersectional
- focus also on community organisation, eg: local transmission, spending time together, intergenerational exchanges etc.. party…
- Not focus only on tech production and code but also think about services as a source of income, support and organisation with companies.
In the afternoon we have welcome 2 other issues namely a mutualist proposition to cover health costs of undocumented persons, and undocumented platform workers, mainly riders who deliver food at all time across the city.
While the mutualist project still needs to define their needs so we can organize appropriate tools with them; the support for riders is well organised and presented clear specific needs.
To get support to understand how the platforms work and what data precisely is sourced, and for what usage. How to facilitate the life of riders who have to respond several times a day to facial identification procedures.
This work will be pursued over time.
