# Proposal: Let's reclaim our right to public funding for public investigation!

Following [O₅F₂FDEM Call for Presence](https://oxygen.offdem.net/pub/call-for-presence)

I’m now very keen to propose a track / Working Group on : **Public goods, free software, open hardware, open data: let’s reclaim our right to public funding for public investigation!**

Because that’s what we do - the “we” signifies many, diverse and sometimes even disagreements and oppositions.

Last year we − hack₂o − did:

- We − hack₂o − are using open tech and we are developing open

- We − hack₂o − are lurking and sharing fundings

**Our proposal for O₅F₂FDEM:**

_This proposal does not mean restriction to hack2o. It’s open to anyone who has taken the time and trouble to read what we’re proposing and the terms of OFFDEM, and of course the topic to be worked on._ It’s a Call For Presence!

Let’s write together a Memorandum of Understanding, or something like that, with responsibilities and therefore ad hoc reciprocities for :

1. Thinking mid term and long term viability
2. Apply for regional, international funding without changing our administrative  
structures
3. Implement this in the _what we do_ is “Infra and public services, therefore transparency and public money” line.
4. Have clear rules for redistributing the budget on the basis of  
equity (which differs from equality).
5. What is in fact a form of union representation for people working in  
investigations with free software/hardware/data and **communities**.

Without funding for counter-powers and their forms of dissemination,  
when it’s counter-powers that develop public infrastructure, we leave  
the way open for fascism and authoritarianism.

We need more, and the we is more than we hack2o - adminsys,  
hosting, maintenance, services, moderations, animations, content  
creations - so money with sustainable plans that allow people to live.  
People first!

It’s just a proposal and it must be discussed!  
And YES! throw me in the garbage because there is collusion, really if this is - and this is - a problem, I’m ok with this propal going in the bin.

Well,  
after some times and thoughts I would like to turn this proposal in a different suggestion.

I don’t want to have another ‘funding debate’, especially when it comes to open source software. I do not want holding a “track about funding” anymore, specially around FOSS.

I prefer and will pay more careful attention with a kind of booth for Hack₂O at Offdem, doing some Demo, performing live water analysis, opening discussion, sharing stuffs. a table or two and a few chairs, a power point and people who come along if they feel like it.
