O₇F₂FDEM: let's do it in Brussels?

Hi everyone,

I would like to propose that we organize O₇F₂FDEM in Brussels in 2027.

I have a possible venue: the Museum of Capitalism. There is about 400 m² of space that we could use. I don’t know yet if the heating works, so this is something we need to check.

If you agree, I can take care of finding a space and coordinating between OFFDEM and the venue.

I think now is a good time to start preparing the organization and to see who would be motivated to help.

@tharyrok super thanks for this proposition, indeed having O₇F₂FDEM happening in Bx would be amazing, and as already stated for it to happen in good conditions we need support for organising it, a couple years ago we have tried to summarize the process to organize an OFFDEM, it is documented here: How to organize an OFFDEM event?
Indeed now is the good timing to start, and the next steps are as follow:

• Ensure you have an organization team:
  we cannot stress this point enough, these people’s work will cascade on the whole chains of events.
• Start thinking about a CFP:
  CFP means not a Call for Participation but a Call for Presence, since this is that quality we expect from all people involved with OFFDEM. Which intersectional topics do you want to address? What is going on within and beyond the community that requires most attention? You cannot address everything, and should impulse vectors along specific axes, no more than three. These can be discussed in the chat and formalized in the forum. Create a specific category for the edition, associate the participants early.

This is to say, if we have more people responding about their availability to support the organisationm then we can think about a call for presence

The O₇F₂ compound does not exist AFAIK. From there we fall under the heptoxides, which do not play well with fluorides, who prefer binary compounds. So, as announced at the beginning, we must change our naming process.

O₇FFDEM would work though. Maybe considering O-Type Stars would land us a couple more years.

I’m up for organising an OFFDEM in Brussels. I also have contact with the organisers of the FOSDEM DEI devroom, which got rejected (again!). And, the collective I’m a part of makes and implements software that we can use to stream the event to the FOSDEM audience.

I’ll see if I can organise the CFP that was used for the rejected devroom. I also contacted Coin Culture to see if they could house a space, as they are right in the middle of it. Another alternative is to have it at CommonsHub but they also need to make rent.

if rent would mean partipation would no longer be gratuit, that would exclude some people & would

make it a different kind of event. having a sponsor paying for the rent could help a bit but otoh might also introduce negative effects… anyway, thanks for thinking along & offering the suggestion! hope to c u in brussels!
