Tetraoxygen Launch party at Caldarium

This is a wiki: members can edit it to coordinate the organization of a boiler room party the evening before the official program, to welcome people and create an informal atmosphere with music, food and drinks.

Who

Neutrinet is an associative internet provider in Belgium. For more than 10 years, Neutrinet has been committed to a neutral, free and decentralized internet, offering the necessary tools to those who want to reclaim their data and build an internet that reflects their values.

Since a few years, Neutrinet works together with 100PAP ASBL, activist microbrewer, to provide internet connections to refugees occupations in Brussels.

All benefits after the party will be donated to Neutrinet.

When & Where

02/02 @ Caldarium, Rue de Wautier 121, 1020 Laeken

Opening

From 6pm to midnight. Doors will be closed at 10pm.

  • Participants must moderate the noise level after 10pm and ask for the cooperation of other participants.

Food & Drinks

There will be pasta with vegan bolognese. Beers and softs will be proposed as well.

Food and drink are provided at free pricing! There are donation boxes in the greenhouse.

  • Beers are named 100Pap − Supporting undocumented migrants’ right to housing
    • The 100PAP project fights against the material and temporal precariousness of housing for groups of undocumented migrants.

Rules

All guests are asked to take part in this event in accordance with the rules of the Performance Caldarium Night (adapted from Performance Art Forum (PAF)).

  • Don’t leave traces

Clean behind you in order to leave every square centimeter -that is not your private room- all the time available for everybody when you are not using it. Traces are unwanted or uninvited marks (material or immaterial) left in the space or in others.

  • Make it possible for others

Think of this as an opportunity to open up space(s) by showing a rehearsal or a movie, giving a lecture, starting a discussion, cleaning a corridor, or helping somebody.

  • The do-er decides

But not alone! Things are decided by the ones who do, more than the ones who talk. However, the opportunity to do is not without limits and action should be taken in consideration with others.

  • Mind asymmetries

PAF is made of asymmetries. People come from different places, inhabit different bodies, have different experiences, are situated differently in power structures and have different boundaries. Take this into account, challenge your own position and let it be challenged, while respecting other people’s boundaries.

Think those rules as interrelated.

Performance Caldarium Night (adapted from Performance Art Forum (PAF)) aspires to be a space where intersectional, anti-racist and feminist analysis inform practice. Sexism, racism, classism, LGBTQ+phobia, ableism, ageism and any other form of discrimination or aggression are not tolerated. Performance Caldarium Night fosters a practice of collective accountability and considers it everybody’s responsibility. More info, guidelines and resources are available here.

As said before Performance Caldarium Night is a place for meeting. Caldarium offers shared spaces for activities or groups that organise themselves autonomously and with as few forms of domination or power as possible. Activities are voluntary, based on reciprocity and without exclusion criteria.

The aim will be to oppose alienation with a focus on deconstructing concepts such as labor, paid work and money.

Furthermore, because of the presence of animals who have their habitat in Performance Caldarium Night as well as the constraints of the garden and the hygiene of the rooms, we would prefer not to have people bringing their pets to Performance Caldarium Night, nonetheless if they are indispensable companions for you then again please contact us to clarify an agreed upon organisation.

Performance Caldarium Night’s relationship with the village a balance to preserve and maintain. Careful and positive relations with the villagers are necessary for its existence. Please avoid loud noises in the night in the garden or the building.

We wish you a fruitful time in Performance Caldarium Night’.

Cool yes party at Caldarium is besoming an oFFDEM classic, and its amazing.

@HgO would you mind pasting a fez words in the above topic to give a some details about Caldarium and maybe present neutrinet.

Will there be food at the event?

Im helping with the Guix Days (2 day event, 40 attendees), which concludes that evening:
https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Guix/FOSDEM2024

There are needs to satisfy vegan needs, affordability as well as locality (its at ICAB, St Josse).
Incase you a planning something satisfying the first two things, I could try to lobby them to take public transport (they seem allergic to it).

Well,
this party and moment is for OFFDEM participants and contributors. It’s not a “Big Night”, nor is it an open banquet (although I’m not in full decision here. It’s up to the people at Caldarium to decide. cc @HgO ). It’s a simple, convivial evening, or at least that’s how it has been for previous editions.

Last year we did some pasta with vegan bolognese, we plan to do the same this year.
I think we could welcome max 80 people, last year there was 40-50 people I think. So they could come, but this might be a bit crowded. We will have to make more room and food then. I’d say it’s not a real problem as soon as we are prepared for more attendees than last year.

Thats good to know.

I do consider there intersectional overlap, which is why Id be keen on nudging both clusters closer.

I will forward on your perspective and see whether this is of interest to them.
I will see whether I can barter volunteering or financial contributions to be commensurate with any opportunity costs.
… they are just so peculiarly adverse to public transport its spooky

I checked in with the Guix people, it sounds like they are interested and some were discovering more about OFFDEM.

They (30-40 people, Ill ascertain how many vegan and vegetarian closer) can come after they wrap up on the Friday at 6pm.
As such around 7pm seems likely.

It was suggested that we could pay 15-20 EUR pp to cover food costs (perhaps flexibly given different incomes, Id even suggested a 10 EUR level for those more precariat) - naturally we would not want to impact any pricing mechanism for other attendees.

There will be a commitment to finding volunteers amongst us.

Does that sound feasible?

That’s great news! We have two DJs who will be there to liven up the party. \o/

We can bring some synthesizers and play techno/noise on weird analogous synths. Is this something possible?

I have an old kaos pad 2 - I used to love aiming a mic at the speaker cones for feedback experiments.
I can keep it onhand if somebody wants to have a mess with it.

Also, I have a reasonable collection of field recordings on vinyl.
From trains to birds to kettles going off.
If you have a turntable for the Friday rig I could bring some of that should you want to do some musique concrete.

Yes, they can come, we will make food for 70-80 people. I can’t tell how much it will cost per person, because we will buy the food on the Friday morning, but there will be a donation box for paying the food. Also, all benefits will be donated to Neutrinet.

Super, I think this is a win.
The organisers at the Guix end will make clear the background’s of Offdem and Neutrinet and the clear necessitate to reciprocate in some form.
They are a lovely family, so they will get it (beyond those already in both camps).
We will just emphasize how much they would be spending in other locations
(I prefer the concept of giving surplus to community groups rather than restaurant rentiers).

In any case, please accept of bottle of Buckfast from me personally as a measure of my esteem.

This time I’ll be early and ready for the radio show!

I need your agreement.

I’d like to move the conversation elsewhere in the forum (where it’s only accessible to people with an account) and thus facilitate the publication (public access) of the evening’s page (and thus help publish the OFFDEM programm.

  • Is that OK with you?

  • Is there anything you need to do first?

You may also publish the page : the first post will be pubic and the discussion will remain private and accessible through the topic to group members.

Hi,

Just updating the number of Guix attendees from our lot coming tomorrow.

I decided to have people commit electronically.

I have only had ~20 provisioned explicitly.
As such please expect less than 40 of us to be present.
I will update again tomorrow morning.

We have had offers to help volunteering.

and it seems that we have about 25 people explicitly confirming.

Perhaps 30 will be the final number.

Ive brought a bottle of Buckfast for you.

And Im coming with an extension cord incase its helpful.

The Guix community really got a kick out of being present and across the weekend.
Thanks for the great warmup to OFFDEM and being so welcoming!

I hope you made use of the Buckfast
